An HSA or FSA is a tax-advantaged way to set aside money for eligible healthcare expenses, such as copays, prescriptions, dental care, eye care and certain over-the-counter medical products.
Both accounts can reduce the after-tax cost of healthcare because qualified expenses are paid with tax-advantaged dollars. Eligibility and covered expenses depend on IRS and plan rules.
You can try it, but your FSA card will probably not go through successfully.
In order to improve the chances of success, Truemed helps by having you fill out the short questionnaire and giving you the LMN you need for purchases to be compliant.
We strongly encourage you to make purchases with your normal credit card or debit card, then submitting for reimbursement for the best likelihood of success.
Truemed is a payment and eligibility platform that helps qualified customers use HSA or FSA funds for certain health-related purchases. It is not an HSA/FSA administrator or insurance company.
There is no additional cost to you! Pretty awesome, right?
Using an HSA or FSA saves money because you pay eligible healthcare expenses with tax-advantaged dollars instead of ordinary after-tax income.
Suppose you spend $1,000 on eligible medical expenses:
Your actual savings depend on your income, state taxes and how contributions are made.
Our partnership with Truemed allows them to streamline our purchase process for you to save money!
These are the basic steps for the HSA/FSA eligible product purchases:
Here's where people can get confused. Battle Balm is purchased by people with & without medical necessity. The need for our products depends on you and your account administrator!
Approval is not automatic. Eligibility depends on the customer’s medical needs, the individual product and the HSA/FSA plan’s rules. The account administrator ultimately determines whether a reimbursement is accepted. General wellness purchases without a medical purpose usually do not qualify under IRS medical-expense rules.
A letter of medical necessity (LMN) is a letter written by your primary care physician that verifies the services or items you are purchasing are for the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a disease or medical condition.
This letter is required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for certain eligible expenses.
It usually takes 24-48 hours for you to get your LMN via email. If you don't see it, check the spam folder. If you still don't see it, reach out directly to Truemed: support@truemed.com
You can submit for a partial reimbursement!
For example, if you purchase $60 in Battle Balm eligible products, but only have $25 in your HSA/FSA account, you can use up the rest of your HSA/FSA funds on the purchase. The balance of $35 would come from your normal credit card.
If you have already received an LMN for purchases with Battle Balm, as long as your LMN is still valid (i.e. within 12 months of issuance), you do not need to complete the survey again.
The first thing to do would be to contact Truemed: team@truemed.com so they can help you understand why it was rejected.
HSA/FSA plan administrators usually have requirements for you to be approved. Truemed specializes in helping you get the right documentation in order to be approved!
